Blood diamonds are in relation to diamond trading, conflict diamond (also called a converted diamond, blood diamond, hot diamond, or war diamond) refers to a diamond mined in a war zone and sold to finance an insurgency, invading army's war efforts, or a warlord's activity, usually in Africa[1] where around two-thirds of the world's diamonds are extracted
Reasonings behind why I chose this topic...
Blood Diamonds stood out to me because at the end of the day a diamond is just a stone. In Africa and places where they find diamonds a diamond could pay and provide for your family because the diamond is in such a high demand. Most of the diamonds however are not legally shipped to the U.S. but they are getting used and being put in a wedding ring, something that a women charishes and means everything to her- a sign of love. This topic is making me think twice on what diamonds really mean and what people go through just because of a stone.

Blood Diamonds
"Rough diamond caches have often been used by rebel forces to finance arms purchases and other illegal activities. Neighbouring and other countries can be used as trading and transit grounds for illicit diamonds. Once diamonds are brought to market, their origin is difficult to trace and once polished, they can no longer be identified." http://www.un.org/peace/africa/Diamond.html Once found the diamonds the men can either go to the forces of who they work for or can sell them to venders to get more money for their diamond, however this is illegal so they are taking a chance. The diamonds however are not tracked and once polished and cut a diamond is a diamond. The man has got away with it and has provided more money for his family.
